Day 11 – Your siblings, in great detail

Well so I suck at this blogging thing and the whole 30 days meme...

Time to get back on track! I only have one sibling and that would be my little brother Andy. The two of us are 21 months apart, almost to the day. It made growing up both fun and at times not so fun. Andy's always been a bit of a lazy bones when it comes to academics and I am a bit of a perfectionist. Being that we grew up in a relatively small town and had most of the same teachers just at different times, I think that a lot of academic expectations were put on him to sort of be like me. Everyone knew he was smart, but he wasn't challenged so that kind of led to him blowing off his classwork, etc. At the same time, we're both very musical people, but he is so much more musical than me. The boy learned piano and was composing his own music in middle school. Needless to say once were in high school together everyone pretty much expected us to have the same musical talents and I came up short.

We've had a lot of ups and downs. We're two extremely different people and I think sometimes that leads my mom in particular to worry that we won't get along once our parents are gone. But Andy has grown a lot in the last couple of years and he's finally beginning to wisen up on how to be a grown up. He's got a little ways to go yet, but apparently both my dad and his little brother were a bit of "late bloomers" and they turned out just fine, so I'm not too worried about him yet.

I will say that Andy has always been there for me when I needed him, and while he doesn't always show it in the way you might expect I know he loves me and would do whatever he could to make sure I was happy. It's not as constant as our mom might like but we do talk about life and how each other is doing on our own (without prodding) and I know he looks out for my well-being. Same goes for me, he knows that I won't just let him sink if he needs my help and that I love him.
